Who is Jim Dickens?

Jim Dickens, born in 1901 was the grandfather of the company’s founder. He inspired his grandson into the textile and design industry.

Back in the good one days, James started out as an upholsterer, based in the Black Country, where he honed his skills as a craftsman before moving to London in the 1930s. James then pursued a career working as a Fabric and Passementerie agent for the Art Textile Company of Featherstone Street.

In 1984, influenced by his artistry, skills and passion, Dominic Morgan went to follow his grandfather into learning the upholstery trade. Prior to starting he honed his skills working for certain European textile companies. Dominic travelled to the British Isles supplying furniture craftsmen and design firms with weaves, velvets from mills based in Turkey and Belgium.

Back in 1994 Dominic created Loomcraft, which was a retail shop in the city of Litchfield in Staffordshire. It became a superb supplier of fabrics imported from all over Europe. He set out to create his own fabrics for the UK marketplace, using his wealth of knowledge when it came to compositions and designs. This initial work would establish Jim Dickens in 2004.

In 2013, the Welsh print based company Elanbach became another brand alongside Jim Dickens. Elanbach had soft prints, that worked excellently alongside the quality designs and heavy weaves that made the Jim Dickens range. The prints were created from a building close to the current location in Litchfield. They now digitally print out to order samples and obtain across from across the Globe.

Today, the team has evolved into a strong, dedicated team of people that are based in Litchfield providing personal service with a bespoke feel. They supply stunning quality fabrics to clients across the Globe. Having been established for over ten years, Jim Dickens is growing from strength to strength within the textile industry that was created almost 100 years ago.

Here at Kings Carpets we stock the complete Jim Dickens range. For further information please call 0115 925 8347 or email us at info@kingsinteriors.com.

Give your living room a refresh with some simple changes and updates

The living room is heart of the home and deserves to look good; it’s where you, your friends and your family will spend a lot of their time. With some simple changes and updates you can freshen up the room but without breaking the bank, even a small edit can maximise the potential of an otherwise unutilised area or space and quickly start to transform your living room.

Hang some or more mirrors
An excellent alternative to hanging artwork, mirrors can be hung in groups to create the impression of more space and will reflect the opposite wall, great for breaking up a dark paint shade.

Use simple artwork grouped together
Get some low cost frames and use simple artwork such as a page from a magazine, a poster or a piece of artwork done by your child. Using various shapes and sizes work best, now group them together and arrange the frames to your liking. The idea is to create an arrangement that will create an impact rather than the actual piece of art itself; they are not the focal point here.

Give your existing furniture a makeover
A brilliantly easy way to give your room an update is to choose a simple piece of existing furniture and give it a lick of paint in a fresh new colour; make it stand out and want to be used. Have a neutral colour scheme try dark colour to add grandeur or if your scheme is fairly dark in theme give your piece of furniture a bold new colour such as neon blue or sunshine yellow to add bit of fun to the room.

Add some cactuses
The humble cactus is a brilliant house plant; they don’t require much maintenance and will last for years, couple that with placing them in their own individual glass jars, maybe with a little sand added and you’ve got your own little window in to another world that you can place on the window sill or mantel of your choice.

Benefits of having carpeted flooring

Over the last decade or so we have a seen dramatic rise in the popularity of hardwood and laminate flooring options. We can of course understand this increase, as there are numerous positives to having hardwood and laminate floors, but we feel sometimes a room just deserves a carpet.

There are so many reasons choosing carpet flooring over hardwood options...

Comfort
The biggest advantage to carpet flooring is definitely the cosy factor! Walking into a carpeted room will give you a comfortable, cosy, and warm feeling that certain hard floors just cannot provide. It was make a space feel so much more homely and welcoming!

Sound Insulation
Especially in upstairs rooms, noise pollution in houses can have a serious effect on the residents of your home.  Having a carpet fitted plays an important role virtually eliminating impact noise because it absorbs sound!

Insulation
Another advantage to having carpet flooring is also for the extra insulation it can provide through preventing heat loss! If you get an extra thick under-padding and choose denser carpet fibres you can seriously retain heat in your home.

Aesthetics
Carpets are a very flexible flooring option as they come in such a huge variety of colours and styles, making it easy. They can really change the look of a room or tie together a colour scheme. Unlike a plain wooden floor, carpets can be used to make a statement in a room – and you can even buy patterned ones!

Household Safety
Carpet flooring also makes homes a lot safer, especially if there are children or elderly people in the home. Carpeted floors can help save them from serious injuries from falls etc. Carpets mean reduced risk of slippage, especially when wet and also over decrease in stress on joints.

Carpets are quick and easy to install allowing the consumer considerable scope for fashionable creativity – whether they are used in a wall-to-wall design or in combination with other flooring surfaces.

All of the quality carpets we supply have excellent wear properties, which means that they will provide you with many years of comfortable service. Never buy a carpet without getting an estimate from us! We guarantee the best quality and the best prices!

Why have Mirrors in your home...

There are so many reasons why you should have mirrors in your home. We have a beautiful range of mirrors here at Kings Interiors and thought we’d write about why we think you need one in every room of your house...

Space
For a start they are the best way of creating the illusion of space! They can really effectively amplify a room and make it feel a lot bigger than it actually is. A mirror reflects the room, making you think that a room is much bigger. A small or narrow room can benefit from hanging a wall mirror and having a mirror in the hallway or a bathroom can make a space look more open.

Light
A mirror also reflects light around a room. Any light in your room will be enhanced by mirrors that reflect it, making the room more light and airy, and the more light and airy a room, the more spacious it feels.

Hide
Another great use for a mirror is to hide any imperfections you may have on the walls of your home. It can be hard to find paintings or pictures that look right in your home and that suit your style and colour schemes. A mirror is a great alternative that can cover up any unsightly imperfections such as holes, paint scratches, discoloured paint, or finger marks.

Decorate
A large, decorative mirror in a room will immediately brighten it up and can create a lovely focal point. You can also use a mirror to update the look of a room in your home, to achieve a cohesive style or to bring interest in a space.

Look
Last but not least, a key benefit of a mirror and arguably the most important one is its functional use. You use a mirror to look in it! You use one to check on yourself before you leave the house, to do your hair, and for all your other grooming rituals.

Many interior decorators and designers maintain that a mirror completes the look of a room. In our showrooms we display probably the largest selection of mirrors from each manufacturer in the UK. You can browse and buy online, or visit our amazing showrooms here in Nottingham. Call us for any help or advice on 0115 9455584 or email info@kingsinteriors.com.

Patterned Carpets are back!

Old-fashioned and dowdy they are no more - patterned carpet is back! We believe a pattern can brighten up even the dingiest of spaces, whether you making statement on you staircase with a slick tartan design, or styling your lounge with floral motifs. Patterned carpets are dramatic, adventurous and fun, and they are an important consideration when choosing a carpet.

Practically speaking, it can mask a multitude of spills, spots and wear. Even a subtle pattern can help to conceal any blemishes. Pattern adds detail to a room, whether it's geometric, floral or a simple check. It also brings character and complexity to the overall design.

From a contemporary take on traditional designs or to create a truly heritage impression we have a wide selection of beautiful patterns and designs for every taste and style.

From Axminster Carpets of Devon, Brintons, Ulster Carpets, Whitestone Weavers, Woodward Grosvenor and Goodacre, from traditional to Laura Ashley designs, Kings has everything you will need to transform your room. We are one of the original woven Axminster and Wilton suppliers in the country. Our knowledge of these products is second to none. Here are some examples...

The Brintons Abbeyglen Woven Axminster

This plaid collection is named after the striking castle which sits high above Connemara. The five designs are inspired by the county that the plaid represents and the warm earth colours used give the carpets a rich natural quality.

Brintons Timorous Beasties Yellow Ruskin Butterfly

Known for their beautiful, dramatic textiles and wallpapers, Timorous Beasties began by creating rugs for Brintons. This season, for the first time, they have designed a carpet collection. Available in three widths 1, 3 and 4 metres wide, this stunning design is suitable for extra heavy domestic use.

Brintons Laura Ashley Woven Axminster

The Laura Ashley palette of soft honeys, pinks and greens looks great in modern homes and is very easy to live with. Available in three widths 0.91 metres, 2.74 metres and 3.66 metres wide, this pretty design would look beautiful in any home.

Flooring is the cornerstone of any design scheme. Once you decide on the carpeting of a space, the wall colour, window treatment, fabrics and furnishings will all fall into place. So what is on the floor-whether it's a block colour or an elaborate pattern- will create the atmosphere for an entire room. For all your carpet needs, look no further than Kings Interiors!

Prepare to cosy up with Kings sofas

Summer for many is more than just a season – a state of mind that is a time of both work and rest but in British climates it can come and go so subtly that many of us don’t even realise its presence.

Luckily for us, this year, we have been lucky enough to experience scorching temperatures, heat waves and even bank holiday barbecues, which are a rare treat.

However, with recent weather changes and temperature declines it seems that summer is coming to an abrupt close – just like that.

Now, here may be the time to take stock and gather your thoughts on the next season to come – Autumn. For many a disappointing season, however, at Kings we think this season provides the perfect opportunity to sit and watch nature changing right before our eyes, all while sat in the comfort of your own home.

From the exterior to the interior of your home, Autumn preparations can not only bring richer and more earthy tones of colour but also different styles and new furnishings to help you prepare your home for the impending winter when you really will be cosying up in front of the TV and fire, with a good book or loved ones.

Here, we take a look at some of the ways you can use your living spaces practically, stylishly and comfortably this autumn.

Social and entertaining

With the right kind of sofa choices you can make your home into a comforting social space to entertain your guests over the cooler months while remaining firmly indoors. You want something stylish to showcase your own personality but also functional to fit your guests seating requirements.
As many of you will know, choosing the right type of fabric or leather upholstery to cover your sofa is entirely down to your own tastes so the options then fall down to the sizing requirements and shapes that you want to suit your living room or entertainment space.

Here are 3 different styles you may want to consider:

The Loose Cover Goodwood Sofa
With comforting plump cushions and curvy lines, this sofa provides a traditionally functional role for your guests and is large enough to provide plenty of room.

The Alstons Padstow sofa
Doubles as a sofa bed for those guests that will want to stay the night and avoid the cooler temperatures. This sofa has classic lines and shape to fit most interiors – available in a variety of fabric colours and designs.

The Luxury Florence Sofa
Termed luxury for its rich and fine upholstery this style of sofa has seat cushions which are hand stuffed with duck down and duck feathers for maximum comfort for you and your guests – although whether you’ll want to share the seating is another matter.

Cosy night in

Of course when the weather takes a turn for the worst, rain, snow or winds start picking up speed you will want to avoid leaving your home. This is the point where snuggling up in front of the fire with a good book or television with a decent film will seem more attractive. But is your sofa as inviting as you think or is it time for a new one?

While we all may want a deep and plump cushioned sofa that has chunky lines to sink into, this isn’t always possible for all rooms. Your choice of sofa or settee will all come down to the size and shape of your living space so do bear measurements in mind.

Here are 3 different styles you may want to consider for that cosy night in:

The Duresta International Emperor
With this sofa, you can fully customise your sofa to fit the shape and size of room that you have. Modern and contemporary without compromising on function, you can happily sink into the corners of this sofa – all you have to worry is about the choice of upholstery. A Duresta sofa is an investment for many years as it comes with renowned high levels of craftsmanship.

Contrast upholstery Keats midi sofa
A high quality traditional shape of sofa with a coil sprung base and feather down interior for maximum levels of comfort and style. This midi sized sofa is also perfect for smaller living spaces or if you just want a sofa to stretch out on and have all to yourself.

Parker and Farr sofa
If you want to keep all the luxury for your home then a Parker and Farr sofa could be just what you’re looking for. Sofas of character and showmanship promoting flair and style with stunning curves and a wide span of upholstery styles, this sofa will be one you’ll learn to cherish not just for the winter months but all year round.

At Kings Interiors, we know that furniture is an intimate part of a person’s home and should not only suit a purpose but be an investment that will also communicate the homeowner’s distinct style.
With all of our sofa styles, we provide a large variety of upholstery fabrics and sofa designs for you to choose from because the furnishings in your home are the most honest reflections of you.
