Getting Your Small Space Ready for the Holidays

Whether you’re hosting a large holiday dinner, a festive cocktail party or a casual brunch, the key to getting the most out of your space this summer is with a flexible mindset.  Use these tips to get inspired for this year’s summer activities and to plan ahead for the Christmas period:

Rearrange

Rearrange your furniture to limit crowding and ensure there’s enough space to make you and your guests comfortable. A sofa with a sturdy structure and movable backrests is perfect for a number of guests at one time. Have fun decorating your space for the holidays, but make sure there is enough room on counters, shelves, and side tables for your company to place plates of food and drinks. Think of unique solutions to maximize your space by having items serve double-duty on the day of your gathering. Try clearing off a shelf on a bookcase to create a temporary bar or snack station.

Making mealtime easy

Consider using a transforming table that can be extended to full size at mealtime to seat everyone while they eat, but can be tucked away or used for a different purpose when not in use. If you can look past the formalities of a sit-down meal, putting out a number of small plates around the room or having guests grab food buffet-style from the kitchen is a fun and social alternative to crowding around a table.

Living Room Trends for 2016

The New Year is the time when most homeowners think about a quick home makeover as they do their best to keep their home as up to date as possible.  This includes incorporating decorative pieces and design elements that can keep up with the rapidly changing trends. In this blog we take a look at a few trends that will do just that.

Sustainable Design

This generation are turning towards a cleaner, greener and more planet friendly life, regardless of whether they choose to mention their opinions on problems such as global warming etc. Nothing needs to be wasted, and with a little DIY paired with some creativity you can produce some real gems for your living room. Vintage is also in at the moment, this includes antique wall signs, decor and accessories so put them at the top of your list.

Organic Decor Choices

Following on from sustainable design, there are plenty of ways in which your living room can be made more natural and less, well not natural. Add awesome greens, living wall to living room, maybe bring in a side table or coffee table with a live edge or turn other organic materials into cosy and pleasing pieces of furniture.

Define Your Own Style

Personal choice is increasingly becoming the style and bringing your own style into your living room brings that extra touch, making it more homey and cosy. In 2016 you will see this with local designers and homeowners coming together to create a personalised that brings two or three unlikely, individual styles. Styles like Scandinavian will continue to be present in homes globally, touches of tropical charm and vivacious prints will provide this wonderful alchemy of the exotic and understated.

Brintons Carpets

Brintons is a British manufacturer of carpets and was founded in 1783 by William Brinton. Their first factory based in Kidderminster was established in 1820 and as of 2008 still has a big manufacturing presence on the Stourport edge of the town. In the 1970s Brintons opened their first factory in Telford, Shropshire to make spun yarns. Alongside these them also other factories across the world including: Australia, Portugal, and India.

Brintons launched an advertising campaign in 1993 featuring costumes designed by Vivienne Westwood and were made from the companies carpets. A second campaign involving Westwood followed in 1995 and was based on the dress style of 1783; the year the company was founded.  No more than a year later a third campaign was launched with the creation of evening gowns constructed from the carpets by British designer Antony Price.

Brintons offer a wide range of carpets and are divided into patterns and plains. Do you prefer bold, large or even more traditional floral patterns? Then Brintons patterned ranges are the one for you. Maybe a plain carpet is your go to? Plain carpets don’t have to be boring; Brinton’s four different ranges each have a different texture from velvet to twist, they offer over 100 colours. They also produce tartan and plaid patterns which never go out of fashion and has the power to either be modern or classic whilst contrasting or blending with any style or decor. The New Trends in Carpets

When decorating your home, one the essential things to consider is the carpet. Matching up the carpet seamlessly with your sofa, chairs and walls can always be a hard thing to decide on. This blog will help you through the latest trends and hand out some tips and tricks to picking the right carpet for your home.

The new direction in the newer carpets is towards layered colours and soft textures. The combination between the two will always be popular because it minimizes soil and vacuum marks. Alongside this, the other advantage is the colour and texture offer more distinctive styling and fashion appeal than others.

When the choices of carpet are limited to basic beiges, designers look at the situation more as a blank canvas to build on when really the carpet should be the focal point of your room. With the vast amount of styles, textures, colours and themes, it is becoming more and more popular amongst interior designers to go away from boring beige.

Just to point out, the need for neutral carpets hasn’t gone away; it’s still a very popular choice. Unlike the plain hand woven carpets of the 1990s, today’s versions have a lot more textures and patterns. The variation in sculptured effects and height offers a bolder look and which offers a lot more to the room.

The trend with neutral carpets colours is to either have more texture, more patterns, and even flecks of colour that add some interest to any basic background. Colour sprinkled against a neutral background adds that dynamic of dimension whilst helping mask spots and spills. You will also see his technique used with the “new neutrals” which include: soft greens, pale yellows and the lighter shades of blue.

At Kings Interiors we have a vast amount of patterned, textured, versatile and neutral carpets for you to choose from. Hopefully this brief little insight into what you can do with the latest trends of carpet has inspired you to get your decorating fingers out before the Christmas period.

Adam Carpets have been manufacturing luscious carpets for over 80 years in the city of Kidderminster. In that time the brand has became known for its gorgeous, high quality products with a vast range of colours and over 250 standard colour options. They also have 12 different qualities which include: twist cut pile, velvet cut pile, loop pile, tip-sheared loop pile and many more; all stocked in 4 to 5 metre widths.
