Their first factory based in Kidderminster was established in 1820 and as of 2008 still has a big manufacturing presence on the Stourport edge of the town. In the 1970s Brintons opened their first factory in Telford, Shropshire to make spun yarns. Alongside these them also other factories across the world including: Australia, Portugal, and India.

Brintons launched an advertising campaign in 1993 featuring costumes designed by Vivienne Westwood and were made from the companies carpets. A second campaign involving Westwood followed in 1995 and was based on the dress style of 1783; the year the company was founded.  No more than a year later a third campaign was launched with the creation of evening gowns constructed from the carpets by British designer Antony Price.

The New Trends in Carpets

When decorating your home, one the essential things to consider is the carpet. Matching up the carpet seamlessly with your sofa, chairs and walls can always be a hard thing to decide on. This blog will help you through the latest trends and hand out some tips and tricks to picking the right carpet for your home.

The new direction in the newer carpets is towards layered colours and soft textures. The combination between the two will always be popular because it minimizes soil and vacuum marks. Alongside this, the other advantage is the colour and texture offer more distinctive styling and fashion appeal than others.

When the choices of carpet are limited to basic beiges, designers look at the situation more as a blank canvas to build on when really the carpet should be the focal point of your room. With the vast amount of styles, textures, colours and themes, it is becoming more and more popular amongst interior designers to go away from boring beige.

Just to point out, the need for neutral carpets hasn’t gone away; it’s still a very popular choice. Unlike the plain hand woven carpets of the 1990s, today’s versions have a lot more textures and patterns. The variation in sculptured effects and height offers a bolder look and which offers a lot more to the room.

The trend with neutral carpets colours is to either have more texture, more patterns, and even flecks of colour that add some interest to any basic background. Colour sprinkled against a neutral background adds that dynamic of dimension whilst helping mask spots and spills. You will also see his technique used with the “new neutrals” which include: soft greens, pale yellows and the lighter shades of blue.

At Kings Interiors we have a vast amount of patterned, textured, versatile and neutral carpets for you to choose from. Hopefully this brief little insight into what you can do with the latest trends of carpet has inspired you to get your decorating fingers out before the Christmas period.

Five signs you need a new sofa!

How do you determine the signs it’s time for a new couch? When it comes to our homes we generally love everything in it, or at least we did at one point! You may love your trusty sofa –reliable, cosy, and even moulded into your shape - a good sofa can even hold good memories!

However, sometimes, we love them too much, which makes it difficult to let go when we should! If you are on the fence about whether or not to replace your old faithful couch, consider our signs it’s time for a new one!

You’re sinking....

The cushions are flattening; your knees are creeping up to your chin when you sit down, and leaving the couch seems like an almost impossible task. If your inking a little too far into your couch, it’s time to jump ship.

Fading away?

Your new friend from work comes over for lunch - “Ooh I love your sofa, Dave would never let me have a pink sofa!” You smile politely, far too embarrassed to admit that the now fuchsia two-seater was once in fact a burgundy red number! When your sofa starts to fade in colour it’s a big clue it’s time for something new!

Moultee settee?

Fringing can look great on a leather jacket or some denim shorts – not so much on your sofa! When your couch starts shedding its outer shell, and even when the fabric begins to fray a little, it may be time to consider a new sofa!

Creaky couch?

If your guests jump out of their skin thinking they may have sat on a mouse when they take a pew on your beloved couch, it’s probably a sign to get rid! A squeaky couch is basic screaming -“replace me pleaseee, I can’t bare you sitting on me anymore”. Do the kind thing.

You’ve lost that loving feeling

The final and perhaps most given reason you may be in need of a new sofa is that you simply don’t love the way yours looks anymore! Most of us wouldn’t dream of wearing something we wore 10 years ago, so chances are you’re not mad about the interiors you had back then either. If your sofa doesn’t fit in with you decor anymore, it’s time you brought it up to date!

We have a sofa for everyone here at Kings. You will find luxury sofas, fabric sofas, loose cover sofas, leather sofas, Knole sofas, Chesterfield sofas, chaise longues and sofa beds! See our full range here.

Benefits of having carpeted flooring

Over the last decade or so we have a seen dramatic rise in the popularity of hardwood and laminate flooring options. We can of course understand this increase, as there are numerous positives to having hardwood and laminate floors, but we feel sometimes a room just deserves a carpet.

There are so many reasons choosing carpet flooring over hardwood options...

Comfort
The biggest advantage to carpet flooring is definitely the cosy factor! Walking into a carpeted room will give you a comfortable, cosy, and warm feeling that certain hard floors just cannot provide. It was make a space feel so much more homely and welcoming!

Sound Insulation
Especially in upstairs rooms, noise pollution in houses can have a serious effect on the residents of your home.  Having a carpet fitted plays an important role virtually eliminating impact noise because it absorbs sound!

Insulation
Another advantage to having carpet flooring is also for the extra insulation it can provide through preventing heat loss! If you get an extra thick under-padding and choose denser carpet fibres you can seriously retain heat in your home.

Aesthetics
Carpets are a very flexible flooring option as they come in such a huge variety of colours and styles, making it easy. They can really change the look of a room or tie together a colour scheme. Unlike a plain wooden floor, carpets can be used to make a statement in a room – and you can even buy patterned ones!

Household Safety
Carpet flooring also makes homes a lot safer, especially if there are children or elderly people in the home. Carpeted floors can help save them from serious injuries from falls etc. Carpets mean reduced risk of slippage, especially when wet and also over decrease in stress on joints.

Carpets are quick and easy to install allowing the consumer considerable scope for fashionable creativity – whether they are used in a wall-to-wall design or in combination with other flooring surfaces.

All of the quality carpets we supply have excellent wear properties, which means that they will provide you with many years of comfortable service. Never buy a carpet without getting an estimate from us! We guarantee the best quality and the best prices!

Why have Mirrors in your home...

There are so many reasons why you should have mirrors in your home. We have a beautiful range of mirrors here at Kings Interiors and thought we’d write about why we think you need one in every room of your house...

Space
For a start they are the best way of creating the illusion of space! They can really effectively amplify a room and make it feel a lot bigger than it actually is. A mirror reflects the room, making you think that a room is much bigger. A small or narrow room can benefit from hanging a wall mirror and having a mirror in the hallway or a bathroom can make a space look more open.

Light
A mirror also reflects light around a room. Any light in your room will be enhanced by mirrors that reflect it, making the room more light and airy, and the more light and airy a room, the more spacious it feels.

Hide
Another great use for a mirror is to hide any imperfections you may have on the walls of your home. It can be hard to find paintings or pictures that look right in your home and that suit your style and colour schemes. A mirror is a great alternative that can cover up any unsightly imperfections such as holes, paint scratches, discoloured paint, or finger marks.

Decorate
A large, decorative mirror in a room will immediately brighten it up and can create a lovely focal point. You can also use a mirror to update the look of a room in your home, to achieve a cohesive style or to bring interest in a space.

Look
Last but not least, a key benefit of a mirror and arguably the most important one is its functional use. You use a mirror to look in it! You use one to check on yourself before you leave the house, to do your hair, and for all your other grooming rituals.

Many interior decorators and designers maintain that a mirror completes the look of a room. In our showrooms we display probably the largest selection of mirrors from each manufacturer in the UK. You can browse and buy online, or visit our amazing showrooms here in Nottingham. Call us for any help or advice on 0115 9455584 or email info@kingsinteriors.com.

Patterned Carpets are back!

Old-fashioned and dowdy they are no more - patterned carpet is back! We believe a pattern can brighten up even the dingiest of spaces, whether you making statement on you staircase with a slick tartan design, or styling your lounge with floral motifs. Patterned carpets are dramatic, adventurous and fun, and they are an important consideration when choosing a carpet.

Practically speaking, it can mask a multitude of spills, spots and wear. Even a subtle pattern can help to conceal any blemishes. Pattern adds detail to a room, whether it's geometric, floral or a simple check. It also brings character and complexity to the overall design.

From a contemporary take on traditional designs or to create a truly heritage impression we have a wide selection of beautiful patterns and designs for every taste and style.

From Axminster Carpets of Devon, Brintons, Ulster Carpets, Whitestone Weavers, Woodward Grosvenor and Goodacre, from traditional to Laura Ashley designs, Kings has everything you will need to transform your room. We are one of the original woven Axminster and Wilton suppliers in the country. Our knowledge of these products is second to none. Here are some examples...

The Brintons Abbeyglen Woven Axminster

This plaid collection is named after the striking castle which sits high above Connemara. The five designs are inspired by the county that the plaid represents and the warm earth colours used give the carpets a rich natural quality.

Brintons Timorous Beasties Yellow Ruskin Butterfly

Known for their beautiful, dramatic textiles and wallpapers, Timorous Beasties began by creating rugs for Brintons. This season, for the first time, they have designed a carpet collection. Available in three widths 1, 3 and 4 metres wide, this stunning design is suitable for extra heavy domestic use.

Brintons Laura Ashley Woven Axminster

The Laura Ashley palette of soft honeys, pinks and greens looks great in modern homes and is very easy to live with. Available in three widths 0.91 metres, 2.74 metres and 3.66 metres wide, this pretty design would look beautiful in any home.

Flooring is the cornerstone of any design scheme. Once you decide on the carpeting of a space, the wall colour, window treatment, fabrics and furnishings will all fall into place. So what is on the floor-whether it's a block colour or an elaborate pattern- will create the atmosphere for an entire room. For all your carpet needs, look no further than Kings Interiors!

A Display Cabinet in all its glory…

A display cabinet is a practical piece of furniture often considered to be a grandiose feature that adds a sense of gravitas to its surroundings.

Its aristocratic associations are partly due to the English upper classes of the 16th Century onwards who proudly used them when cabinet-making became an established art form across Europe[i].

Even today a dark wooden cabinet such as this REH Kennedy Military one (right) connotes wealth and esteem because of the rich materials it is made from and the skilled craftsmanship behind its construction.

Depending on your individual lifestyle, you can choose to put different things inside it such as ornaments, souvenirs, photos, books, statues, and china, or more convenient, less attractive clutter for instance documents, letters, bills, statements, and stationery.

When you install a display cabinet it is important to present it at its very best.

As you can see from the picture above, books look best when they are lined up side by side across the central shelves. This example features books which are all similar shades and size which is obviously unlikely in real life; however if you want to store regular books you should order them according to their size with the largest first, and use attractive bookends to make them look smart.

Less is more when it comes to your cabinet: even if you have lots of ornaments to display try and limit how many you situate on each shelf; 1 on each short shelf and 2-4 on each wider shelf is more than enough.

Naturally, everybody has certain things that they want to shove away and forget about which is why cabinets such as this one feature plenty of drawers where messier items can be hidden.
Remember to dust the shelves every month – despite what people say a cabinet does not gather that much dust but a monthly clean is a good idea.

If you are thinking about adding a cabinet to your home, have a look on our website now. Kings Interiors are a Nottingham-based furniture store dedicated to providing customers with elite, top quality furniture that can be handed down through generations.
